A fantastic day full of celebration, music, food and drink, and a lot of Irish pride
was evident on Sunday May 22, 2016 as the IAM commemorated the Easter Rising of 2016.
Irish associations and organizations have undertaken an almost unprecedented number of events to commemorate the event, and ours was only one of the many 1916 Rising events taking place at every Irish association or Irish cultural association in Canada, and hundreds around the world!! The day saw many new faces as well as a lot of long-time members come to celebrate being Irish.

We were very privileged to have H.E. Dr. Ray Bassett - Irish Ambassador to Canada in attendance to speak to a full house at the IAM.  A terrific mix of humour, historical facts, as well as insight into the relationship between Canada and Ireland from the perspective of the Government of Ireland was presented and captivated everyone there.

Thank you to everyone on the 1916 Rising committee, the performers and volunteers who made this event the wonderful day it was.  The complete video of the flag raising ceremony and dedication at Memorial Park is available below.  Pictures of the event will be available here soon!

For anyone unable to join us yesterday, you can view the Irish flag being flown at Memorial Park (across from the Manitoba Legislature) until June 5th, 2016.
